TD Neneng maintains strength, course; Signal 1 up over the Batanes

Tropical Depression Neneng maintained its strength and course, and was thus still expected to exit the Philippine Are of Responsibility by Tuesday, weather service PAGASA reported in a Monday night bulletin.

At 10 p.m., Neneng was 150 kilometers west-northwest of Basco, Batanes, and had 55 kilometer per hour winds which could gust up to 65 kph.

Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal 1 was raised over the Batanes Islands, where occasional rain and gusty winds could be expected.

Neneng's trough would also bring bring moderate to occasional heavy rain over the Babuyan Islands, and scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms over the Ilocos Provinces and the Cordillera Administrative Region.

PAGASA warned that flooding and landslides were possible along all these areas, with fisherfolk and and small seacraft advised against sailing over the Batanes' seaboards.

Given that Neneng was moving southwest at 15 kph, the tropical depression would likley be 435 kms west of Basco, Batanes, and outside the PAR, by Tuesday evening. — DVM, GMA News
