>Now gets a much improved all-new lighter chassis with adaptive dampers

>Beefy 275 R19 tyres, wider track and electronic differential promise stable road manners

Reporters got a taste of the 2018 BMW Z4 when the brand opened doors to its latest roadster at the Autódromo do Estoril circuit in Portugal recently.

The 2018 BMW Z4 is not only longer and wider, critics now deem it meaner and worthy of holding BMW’s reputation of being the ‘Ultimate Driving Machine’. We’re talking about an all-new lighter chassis that’s not only 20 percent stiffer, it also benefits from adaptive dampers and an electronic differential. Then there’s the near-perfect fifty-fifty weight distribution, wider tracks on both ends and a wheelbase that’s been trimmed by 25mm.

At launch, customers will be able to choose between the 194bhp/255bhp turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol motors in the 20i/30i, and a 3.0-litre turbo straight-six M40i that registers 335bhp/500Nm of torque. All that power will be transmitted to the wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission (no manual gearbox).
