Ford Mustang hybrid officially teased

-    Ford is prepping a hybrid variant for the iconic Mustang

-    We have already spotted the battery-powered Pony undergoing testing.

-    Might even be a teaser for the Mustang-inspired Mach 1 electric crossover.

Ford dropped a teaser coinciding with the reveal of the Tesla Model Y. This teaser is supposedly hinting at either a hybrid Mustang or a Mustang inspired Mach 1 electric crossover, nothing has been confirmed yet. For now, the teaser only says, “Hold your horses”, with a blue livered Mustang logo.

The illuminated Mustang logo in the teaser is identical to the one seen last year in Ford’s commercial. The new teaser gives out no further information than what we already know. The upcoming Mustang hybrid will offer V8-like performance, says Ford – but it only goes on to prove that it won’t have eight cylinders under the hood. But whatever motor will be present in it will get an electric motor (or more) which will power the front wheels while the conventional gasoline engine will feed the tyre-smoking rear wheels.

Appearance wise – as seen in our exclusive spy shots – there won’t be much differentiating from the electrified derivative from standard Mustang. It is certain that it might lose some of its aggressive bits like the diffusers and multiple exhaust pipes. And on the inside, there might be new eco-related gizmos extracting maximum miles out of each drop of fuel feeding the new age muscle car.

The electrified Mustang is expected to hit the streets only in 2021 shortly after the next-generation Mustang debuts late next year. Meanwhile, the Mach 1 electric crossover’s future is undecided as, after its official announcement, it didn’t receive any favourable response. So the carmaker might have put it on hold for the time being. More details around it will follow in coming months and you’ll surely get to read it on CarWale. So stay tuned.
