TANJUNG MALIM: Proton has started test runs at its plant here in preparation for the local assembly of its X70 SUV.

Final trim, paint and assembly lines are still being worked out as Proton engineers and production workers begin semi-automated test runs to gain experience in assembling the company’s first SUV.

Proton aims to start the production of the X70 in the second half of this year as the commissioning of its new RM1.2 billion plant here draws near. The X70 is based on the Geely Boyue.

The new joint venture company will help Proton in the area of digital technology

and car connectivity systems, which are one of the key drivers for future car sales.

As of today, the X70, Iriz, Persona and Exora have joined the ranks of Proton models with connectivity features that offer a wide range of functional applications for car buyers.
