It is not common to see a K-pop idol get married, so many fans will be especially excited to witness the marriage of Hyerim from Wonder Girls to her boyfriend Shin Min-chul, a taekwondo athlete, in July.

Hyerim publicly acknowledged that she has been dating Shin for the past seven years back in March. The couple also recently appeared on reality show Don't Be Jealous and talked about how they met as well as their feelings about going public.

Before we get even more envious about their sweet romance, here are five things that you should know about 27-year-old star.

She can speak four languages

Born in Korea, Hyerim's family migrated to Hong Kong when she was about two years old. She completed her middle school before returning to Korea. Thanks to the cosmopolitan environment of Hong Kong, Hyerim is capable of speaking four different languages; Korean, English, Mandarin and Cantonese.

She mentioned during her appearance on chat show Abnormal Summit that she is most comfortable with English and Korean, followed by Mandarin and Cantonese.

A hardworking university student

Hyerim enrolled in Seoul's Hankuk University of Foreign Studies under the Department of English for International Conferences and Communication (EICC) in 2017, as she felt that she was lacking during her promotions as a member of Wonder Girls.

Hyerim chose to major in translation, and later revealed that she had translated Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl, on the show Problematic Men in 2018.

The idol proved that her hard work paid off when she secured an average grade of 4.0/4.5.

A romance written in the stars?

Hyerim's father was a taekwondo athlete and the coach of the Hong Kong Taekwondo National Team. Since she was young, she was influenced by her family as her brother also trained in taekwondo.

Lately, some of her fans have been teasing her about the relationship with Shin, especially the fact that he is a taekwondo athlete. It seemed as if she is fated to be with someone related to taekwondo.

It was not all perfect

The phrase "dated for seven years" is possibly one reason why many of Hyerim's are envious of her relationship. However, Hyerim also mentioned through Don't Be Jealous that she and Shin had split up before.

Due to certain issues and personality differences, Shin revealed that there were times when he was unable to accommodate Hyerim which had caused them to naturally drift apart. Despite the rough time, they made up in the end and are now happily engaged with one another.

She is signed under Yubin's self established agency

After her contract with JYP Entertainment expired, Hyerim signed on with band mate Yubin's self established agency, RRR Entertainment, in March 2020.

The news of two Wonder Girls members being in the same company caused loyal fans to rejoice with wonder about how the two talents might collaborate and interact in future.
