One of this week’s tabloids claims Will Smith is worried about the upcoming live-action Aladdin remake running his career. The story is completely false. Gossip Cop can debunk it.

When the first teaser trailer for the new Aladdin was released last month, some fans on social media expressed concern with how Smith looked as the iconic blue genie. According to OK!, Smith is now in a major panic over the backlash, as is the film’s director, Guy Ritchie.

“Guy and Will knew it was a risky move having a live-action Genie in this movie, but they weren’t expecting just how negative some of the reactions would be,” a supposed source tells the magazine. The outlet’s alleged insider further contends that Smith is hoping the Disney remake doesn’t bomb at the box office, but as the film’s release date approaches, he and Richie “realize this could end in disaster for both of their careers.”

None of this is true. For starters, the Aladdin backlash emerged several weeks ago when fans only saw a quick glimpse of Smith as the Genie. Last week, Disney released the full-length trailer for the remake, in which the character is seen in all his glory for the first time. The latest trailer has received overwhelmingly positive praise on social media. People magazine even published an article noting that Aladdin fans have “changed their minds” about Smith’s portrayal of the Genie.

In addition to the backlash having subsided, Smith made it clear on Instagram last week that he’s excited for the release of the upcoming film. Along with a link to the new trailer, the actor wrote, “I just saw the Finished version of #Aladdin!! IT IS FIRE… I AM HYPED!!! I can’t wait for y’all to see it.”

Even though there are many holes in the tabloid’s story, Gossip Cop still reached out to a Smith confidant, who tells us it’s completely “untrue.” Our trusted source wasn’t able to speak on the record, but pointed out that the new Aladdin trailer is being very well-received and Smith is busy promoting the film on social media. The movie star is very happy with the upcoming Disney remake and the suggestion otherwise is baseless.

Star is the same unreliable outlet that Gossip Cop busted last year for falsely claiming Smith and his wife Jada Pinkett were headed for a divorce. The spouses of 20 years are still happily married. The tabloid has already proven to have zero insight into the actor’s personal life, and now it’s clear the outlet doesn’t know much about his career either.
