GFriend Sweeps Asian Music Charts

Girl group GFriend is becoming a global star over Korea.

On January 25, it released its third album ‘Showflake’ with title song ‘Rough’. It not only topped major music charts in Korea but also ranked high in charts in China and Japan.

GFriend is won the most votes from Todou, the biggest video provider in China. The votes are reflected on the pre-scores for ‘The Show’, which is a music program co-produced by SBS MTV and Todou. It is broadcasted live in Korea and China. Todou’s ‘The Show Chart’ ranks influence the scores for the show.

Moreover, the group was the third in Chinese streaming site YinYueTai’s ‘K-Pop Music Video V-Chart’, and in ‘Live Chart’ of iQIYI.

In Youku, the Chinese equivalent of YouTube, it ranked second in ‘This Week’s New Music Chart’ following a Chinese artist. It scored the best among Korean singers.

On January 27, ‘Showflake’ was the second in ‘Daily Sales Chart’ of Tower Records, the biggest music retailer in Japan.

It is noteworthy that GFriend won its popularity overseas without any special promotions. It is a good sign for the group’s future activities out of Korea.

The new song ‘Rough’ has a powerful beats along with sentimental lyrics and sad but beautiful melody.
