While drinking coffee has itsbenefits, there may come a time where you decide to wean yourselfoff caffeine. When that time comes, you don’t have to go coldturkey right away. Cutting off caffeine after being dependant on itfor years can have detrimental effects, including blinding headaches. Instead, tryweaning yourself off it gradually.

“Caffeine is a drug, and you canbecome addicted to it,” says Leslie Langevin, dietician andco-owner of Whole Health Nutrition. “If you are trying to decreaseyour intake, start by cutting your normal amount inhalf.”

Try substituting a whole cup ofcoffee for a half-cup decaf, half-cup regular concoction. Then, gradually increase the amount of decaf and decrease the amount ofcoffee, day by day, in order to wean yourself offcaffeine.

Coffee can create gastrointestinaltroubles and exacerbate symptoms of anxiety. However, if you’re notprone to anxiety or digestive issues, drinking a fresh breweveryday isn’t that bad for you. In fact, small doses can yieldhealth benefits such as cancer prevention and even weight loss!
