We get it: Lorelai Gilmore is your spirit animal. No coffee, no human interaction right? Coffee may be integral to you being a functioning, productive member of society, and though it does have its drawbacks, it also does have its benefits so no one is saying that you should ditch coffee altogether. Believe us, as long-time ardent fans of coffee, we will never spread such treachery. There is the best time to drink coffee, though, and chances are, you’ve probably been drinking coffee at the wrong time for most of your life.

According to a study done, drinking coffee as soon as you wake up could be contributing to your stress levels and anxiety. Now now, don’t get defensive, we can already hear you grumbling, “But coffee makes you anxious any time of the day.” To which we say, actually, no, it doesn’t. Your body produces the largest amount of cortisol right when you wake up. Cortisol has had a long-term reputation of being the stress hormone, as it’s regularly associated with fear, fatigue and anxiety. In the presence of caffeine, the cortisol in your body increases, leading you to have higher levels of stress and anxiety. The high levels of cortisol leads to an almost proportional caffeine crash right smack in themiddle of the afternoon, leaving you feeling exhausted.
