In the 3pm incident, several residents of Taman Juru Jaya here noticed a man breaking into their neighbour’s house through a back window. They immediately alerted the authorities.

But before police could arrive, the swift thief was seen emerging from the house with two bags of loot.

The residents decided to take matters into their own hands and seized the thief before he could escape in his car which was parked nearby.

They pinned him down until the police arrived.

"We confiscated RM3,000 worth of valuables believed to have been taken from the house.

“In the suspect’s car, we also found items he used to break into houses, including a screwdriver. We also seized a 57-centimetre sword and a small packet of syabu,” said Seberang Prai Tengah police chief Assistant Commissioner Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid.

"Background checks on the 35-year-old man found that he is connected to eight criminal cases related to gang robbery, and nine related to drugs," he added.

The man will be remanded from today onwards under Section 457 of the Penal Code for housebreaking.
