SINGAPORE — Ten people, including three children, were injured after a fire broke out at a flat in Whampoa on Sunday (28 February) morning.

"They had sustained injuries and smoke inhalation as a result of the fire," said the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) in a Facebook post.

SCDF said that it was alerted at about 9.10am to a fire at Block 22 Jalan Tenteram. Officers arriving at the scene found the second floor unit engulfed in flames.

Six occupants from the affected unit had escaped from it prior to the SCDF officers' arrival. Two of the occupants were found on the ground floor with injuries and were immediately attended to by a paramedic and other Emergency Medical Services crew.

Firefighters put out the fire using one water jet and two compressed air foam packs. As a precautionary measure, about 100 people were evacuated from the affected block by SCDF and police officers.

A few neighbouring units beside and above the affected home also sustained heat and smoke damage. Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire was of electrical origin and started from the unit's living room, said SCDF in its post.
