Y’all must have heard (and be puzzled like us) about the massive queues that formed at McDonald’s outlets islandwide yesterday — and all for a cutesy food bucket.

Said bucket — a food holder in the shape of Sanrio cartoon character My Melody — is apparently prized enough to pay for a short taxi ride, according to one cabbie. On the Singapore Taxi Driver Facebook group, Ah Low shared about how he received a McDonald’s My Melody Holder as payment for a ride that costs $6.90, the price of the item itself. Presumably, she already has a couple of ‘em (customers were limited to a maximum of five purchases) and letting one go seemed easy enough.

Surprisingly, he even accepted it as his passenger assured that its value would double.

To be fair, it did. By over 600 percent. The pink bucket is now being resold online for up to $50, and people are actually purchasing the limited-edition item, which sold out quickly islandwide yesterday. If Low does manage to find a willing buyer, he could very well profit — but if not, at least he’ll have a food holder in his cab.

Commenters even commended Low for making the right move.

This sets a dangerous precedent. What’s next, paying our bank loans off with Supreme drops?
