A 67-year-old female driver was taken to the National University Hospital (NUH) after her BMW car ploughed through a railing, fell 10 metres down to another road and ended up overturned along 388 Clementi Road, around 2pm last Friday (9 Aug).

According to the Chinese daily, the driver had been buying flowers at a nursery in the area before getting into her vehicle and trying to make a u-turn to exit the nursery. The driver is believed to have accidentally stepped on the wrong pedal while she was doing so.

Eyewitnesses reported that the woman jolted forward and rammed through a metal railing before falling 10 metres down another road. Her car hit a lamppost and ended up in an overturned position.

An employee at the nursery told the Chinese daily that the woman was a regular customer and that he recognised her BMW car. The employee reported that there was only one entrance at the nursery and visitors would have to go up a slope and make a u-turn before they could exit.

The police have since said that they were alerted to the accident at 2.28pm and that the driver was conscious when she was conveyed to NUH. Investigations are ongoing. -/TISG
