Folks are debating over who was the actual wronged party in an accident between a Traffic Police (TP) officer and a motorist that was caught on dash cam last Sunday.

To be fairer to all parties, let’s present the incident in chronological order.

The car recording the dash cam clip made a left turn into Hougang Street 61. It slowed down to allow a motorcyclist to cut in front.

The motorcyclist was caught breaking the traffic rules. On a single lane road, he overtook a lorry from the left, squeezing beside the vehicle and zooming across a zebra crossing.

It was unclear if the driver in the dash cam car signaled his intention to turn left into a carpark. But as soon as the car started to swing left, it crashed into a bike-riding TP officer. Presumably, the officer had been attempting to overtake the car (from the left) in a bid to chase down the motorcyclist.

Visibly injured from hitting the car, the TP officer stopped his bike by the side of the road before the zebra crossing and tried to walk off the pain.

The driver of the dash cam car stopped his vehicle and walked out to attend to the TP officer, who appeared to be pretty shook from the accident. Passersby came by and helped the TP officer set his motorbike properly on its kickstand.

So, who’s in the wrong?

If we’re merely judging the situation from the soundless clip, the culpability can’t be easily established. Some things remain unclear — we don’t know if the car driver had signaled properly before turning, and we don’t know if the TP officer had made his presence known before trying to overtake from the left.

In the comments section of the clip, folks are trying to analyze the video and figure out who to blame for the vehicular fuss.
