A prankster took a police car with its sirens blaring on a joyride around Krispy Kreme car park after cops left the keys in the ignition.

Footage shows the joker hop into the car before taking the marked vehicle for a spin.

The man can be heard shouting "I'm the new policeman" as he turns on the car's sirens.

Onlookers were left in hysterics at his bold antics, with one saying it was the "funniest thing I've ever seen".

The car had been left in the car park in Peterborough by two officers who were called to an incident nearby.

After dealing with the call-out, the officers reportedly grabbed some lunch - which is when the prankster took his chance behind the wheel.

The officers arrived back to the car to find the man parking the vehicle, reports the Peterborough Telegraph.

He reportedly apologised and was let off by the officers.

A Cambridgeshire Police spokeswoman said: "While on duty two officers encountered an incident that required a prompt police response in Hadfield Road, Hampton, on Thursday (July 4). The officers left their police vehicle and keys unattended.

“In their absence, a member of the public entered the vehicle and proceeded to drive it round the car park with the sirens and lights on.

“Upon returning to their station, the two officers promptly alerted a supervisor to the incident and admitted their wrongdoing.

"They were given management words of advice. It was clear an honest mistake had been made.”
