A reality TV star doctor and his girlfriend who have been charged with raping two women could have 1,000 more victims, prosecutors say.

Grant Robicheaux, 38, and Cerissa Laura Riley, 31, allegedly attacked two women they met at a bar and a restaurant in 2016.

But prosecutors say they are currently looking through "thousands and thousands" of videos of potential victims on the defendants' phones.

Robicheaux, who appeared on reality show Online Dating Rituals of the American Male, and Riley are said to have trawled bars and restaurants in Newport Beach, California, for victims, investigators say.

Police also say that they may have travelled together to festivals including Burning Man, Dirtybird Campout festival and the Splash House festival in Palm Springs.

Orange County District Attorney Tony Rackauckas said videos show women who "appear to be highly intoxicated beyond the ability to consent or resist."

He added that they were barely responsive to the defendant's sexual advances, reports ABC-13.

ABC News reported that prosecutors believe there may be "upwards of 1,000 other victims", based on videos and pictures found on the pair's phones.

Rackauckas said: "Based on this evidence, we believe that there might be many unidentified victims out there."

"We believe the defendants used their good looks and charm to lower the inhibitions of their potential prey."

Investigators believe the duo trawled bars to meet women, drug them or force them to drink large amounts of alcohol, before returning to Robicheaux's apartment to be assaulted.

The two women who were allegedly assaulted met the pair during social events.

Mr Rackauckas said: "Women who have encountered these two might have felt a false sense of security due to the fact that both defendants are clean cut, good-looking.

"We tend to trust doctors who take an oath to do no harm.

"The second defendant, being a female, is key.

"A woman purporting to be his girlfriend clearly played a significant role in disarming the victims, making them feel comfortable and safe."

In the first case a 32-year-old woman, said she met the pair at a restaurant in April 2016 and they invited her to a boat party.

When she was intoxicated she was then brought to Robicheaux's apartment, in Newport Beach.

The couple allegedly gave the victim drugs then sexually assaulted her while she was incapable of resisting. The following day she contacted Newport Beach police and tested positive for a number of unspecified drugs, the prosecutor said.

In this case both are accused of rape by use of drugs.

Then in October 2016, the duo are claimed to have drank alcohol with another woman at a Newport Beach bar.

When she became unconscious, they took her to Robicheaux's apartment and sexually assaulted her. The victim told police then when she woke up she screamed for help.

A neighbour called the police, who began an investigation.

In this case, both are accused of sexual assault with intent to commit rape in that case. Mr Rackauckas said: "We've all heard of a wolf in sheep's clothing.

"Well, a wolf can wear scrubs or doctor's clothing. Or a wolf can be a beautiful woman.

"People often assume rapists are creepy, scary men who lunge out from hiding amongst bushes and attack unsuspecting women.

"The reality is that rapists come in all socioeconomic groups, any background."

Robicheaux is also accused of possessing two illegal, unregistered assault rifles, four other firearms and magazines that could carry large amounts of ammunition.

Other charges allege that large amounts of illegal drugs were found in his home in January 2018. The district attorney said the state's medical board has opened an investigation into Robicheaux. However so far there is no evidence that any of his patients could be victims.

Both the defendants were released on $100,000 bail.

Robicheaux could face up to 40 years in state prison if convicted of all charges. Riley also faces up to 30 years and eight months. Both are are due to be formally charged in court on October 24.
