Manchester City star David Silva is relishing the opportunity to 'wind up the red half' of the city in Sunday's derby with United.

Pep Guardiola's table-topping side put their unbeaten Premier League start on the line at the Etihad Stadium against a United side down in seventh but starting to rediscover some form after a sluggish start to the season.

United came back from two goals down to beat City 3-2 in a derby thriller at the Etihad last season but Silva wants to get one over their neighbours this time around.

'Every derby match is different, just like every season is different,' said the Spaniard. 'You can see that regardless of what position either side is in the table.

'You saw what happened when they came to our place last season, and we went there [Old Trafford] and won as well.

'I think league position has nothing to do with it, it's just a game by game thing really.

'Obviously it means a huge amount. We know the importance of the derby and for the people who have been at the game or fans of either club, and in particular City fans, it's a great chance the next day when you go into work or see your mates on the street, it's a chance, if you've won, to wind up the red half a little bit.'

Silva, 32, has three goals and four assists in 15 previous meetings with United.
