Leroy Sane set for shock Manchester City return five weeks ahead of schedule after FA Cup horror tackle

Leroy Sane is poised to make a shock return for Manchester City in the Champions League tomorrow – five weeks ahead of schedule.

Sane was expected to be out for up to seven weeks after suffering ankle ligament damage after being on the receiving end of a horror challenge in City's FA Cup win at Cardiff a fortnight ago.

The expected loss of Sane for a prolonged period was a major factor in City making their ultimately unsuccessful £60million bid for Leicester's Riyad Mahrez.

But Sane, 22, has made a remarkable recovery and is pushing for starting place as City take on FC Basel away in the first leg of their last 16 Champions League tie.

City boss Pep Guardiola admitted he was amazed by Sane's swift recovery and said: "I'm surprised.

“He worked a lot, he's young, but i couldn't expect such a young guy to be so professional.

“He's not in perfect condition, but he wants to help us, he's with us and that's good news. The physios and hims have done a good job."
