Manchester United could land Jerome Boateng 'as Bayern Munich declare they won't stop him leaving'

Manchester United could strengthen their defence this summer with Jerome Boateng, after Bayern Munich told the Germany international they won't stand in his way if he pushes to leave this summer.

United boss Jose Mourinho is still targeting another centre-half, but has been frustrated in his pursuit of Toby Alderweireld thus far.

But amid suggestions of United interest in ex-Man City stopper Boateng, Bayern chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge says he could leave this summer.

He told Sport Bild: “His thoughts about leaving Bayern still exist, as his agent has told me.

“We know that this topic might be approaching. When a club is interested and Jerome says that he wants to join this club, we will consider it.

“I don’t hide the fact that we have a financial threshold, but it won’t be low for sure. But I know that Jerome is thinking about leaving.”

Martial wants to leave this summer

Anthony Martial's agent has confirmed that his client wants to quit Manchester United after falling out of favour under Jose Mourinho, writes Mark Jones.

The forward was a bit-part player under the Portuguese boss in United's 2017/18 season, and that in turn led to him missing out on France's squad for the World Cup in Russia this summer.

And agent Philippe Lamboley says that the 22-year-old - who signed from Monaco in deal up to £58m in the summer of 2015 - now wants out of the club.

"After thinking about all the possibilities and settings, Anthony wants to leave Manchester United."

Manchester United target Alderweireld speaks about his future

Toby Alderweireld isn't ruling out staying at Tottenham this summer despite continued speculation linking him with a move away.

Manchester United have been the club most heavily linked with a move for the Belgium international centre-back, who has so far failed to agree terms on a new deal in north London.

The 29-year-old has just two years remaining on his current deal, but United have so far failed to come up with acceptable offer for the former Ajax, Atletico Madrid and Southampton man, who is currently away with his country at the World Cup .

"Yeah, why not?", he told reporters when asked if he could be staying with Mauricio Pochettino's men.

"I have two years left on my contract. I don't know what is going to happen."
