History of Asian Games

Described as the biggest multi-sport games after the Olympics, the Asian Games have been held every four years since 1951 (there was a three-year gap between the first two editions). Since the 1982 Games – hosted by India – the event has been organized by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA). This is the second time Indonesia will host the Games; the first time was in 1962, in Jakarta.

This year the event will be held in both Jakarta and Palembang, between Aug. 18 and Sept. 2. Here is a look at some of the other nations to have hosted the games so far.
