The Famous Pebble Beach Car Event Isn't All Ferraris

Famed hot rod builder Troy Ladd isn't the first person you'd expect to see during Monterey Car Week. The August event leads up to the Pebble Beach Concours, a show known for Duesenbergs owned by sheiks and Ferraris owned by starlets, or vice versa, but not really a flathead Ford kinda scene. As it turned out, 2019 absolutely had flathead Fords on the concours green, but that wasn't what brought Ladd out. "I get inspiration from the cars you see out here," he told HOT ROD. "The engine-turned finish on an old Bugatti, or the art deco details on a car from the '30s. I can use all of that in the cars we build in my shop."

With that in mind, we spent the week cruising Monterey and the surrounding area looking for inspiring cars. From Woodward-worthy muscle to Chrysler-powered custom road cars, we saw plenty to kick-start our imaginations. Scroll down for a few favorites, and a gallery of muscle, mods, and a few exotics, just to shake it up.
