FCA US, the newly renamed entity of Fiat’s Chrysler Group division, is issuing a recall of more than 66,000 Dodge Ram, Dakota, and Mitsubishi Raider pickups equipped with manual transmissions manufactured between July 2005 and June 2006, Reuters reports. Vehicles built within this timeframe have a spring wire of a different design than used previously or subsequently. It was discovered that the wire could break, preventing the clutch interlock switch from preventing inadvertent starting of the vehicle in gear. One death has been reported related to this recall, in which a child turned the ignition key and struck and killed another child outside the truck.

Owner notification of the recall is scheduled to start in February. Owners of the affected vehicles are encouraged to follow recommended procedure in starting their vehicles by engaging the parking brake when parked and making sure the transmission is in neutral and the clutch fully depressed when starting the vehicle.
