Compact Honda e designed for urban living

(10 Sep 2019) LEAD IN : The future of urban mobility is electric... that's according to Honda while launching their all electic vehicle Honda e, at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The company has pledged to make all its European car sales fully electric by 2025. STORY-LINE : Meet the Honda e  -  a small all-electric car designed for urban mobility. First unveiled as a prototype at the Geneva car show in March, it's debut at the Frankfurt Mortor Show marks its market launch. Designed for European cities, the boxy vehicle replaces side mirrors with cameras, which they say is a first in the compact vehicle market, and pop out door handles. The car can be recharged to 80% capacity in 30 minutes, according to the company's news release, with a range of up to 220 km from a single charge. Carmakers have invested billions in developing battery-electric vehicles to meet tighter EU and Chinese rules on greenhouse gas emissions.   The wave of electric vehicles coming in 2020-2021 represents a regulation-driven "moment of truth" for an industry that has been waiting for the tipping point where falling battery costs make electrics a good deal for people of average income. Honda's vision includes 100% of European sales to be electrified by 2025 and comprehensive energy management solutions   The IAA International Motor Show opens to media and trade visitors today, the public Thursday and runs until 22 September.
