Mercedes-Benz showed the interior of the all-new 2019 Sprinter at its annual Sprinter Innovation Campus in Stuttgart, Germany, last week. The new Sprinter, which is expected to be unveiled in full next spring, will sport an interior with much more connectivity, high-tech features, and a modern design the company says is less intimidating than the current model.

One of the keys to that user friendliness is the dashboard’s more horizontal design. By arranging HVAC and radio controls in slim, horizontal binnacles, Mercedes-Benz’s interior designers have opened up space for a few more storage spaces, such as a large slot underneath the glovebox; a removable, dash-mounted center console with cupholder inserts; and storage on top of the dash with USB and auxiliary audio inputs and an optional wireless charging pad.

Mercedes-Benz showed four different Sprinter dashes at the event, representing the base Sprinter, two mid-level interiors, and one top-of-the-line cabin. The base model, as one might expect, will be targeted at handymen and contractors, and this European-spec dash was kitted with a manual gearshift lever and air-conditioning delete—don’t expect either to come to the U.S. However, you might be able to find an audio-less base Sprinter at an American Mercedes-Benz dealer, with the head unit replaced with a huge storage space.

One rung up, M-B Vans will give the owner a radio and two additional dash vents for the HVAC system. A wide slot beneath the head unit and two little nacelles under the vents provide storage for stuff like notepads and pens. The next-up midlevel dashboard gets a touchscreen infotainment interface and more buttons, along with a covered dashtop storage bin with available wireless charging.

All the way at the top, there’s a widescreen infotainment display, multifunction steering wheel with way too many buttons, and extensive use of gloss black interior trim. This particular Sprinter Innovation Campus display also featured the front seats of the 2019 Sprinter, which were more comfortable and supportive than the already pleasant current van. Overall, the top-spec interior will be perfect for hotel shuttle service, lifestyle and family customers, and as a starting point for a VIP limousine build.

We hope to see the new Sprinter in full in the first few months of 2018. Until then, what do you think of the 2019 van’s new interior?
