California residents can apply for a chance to win Toyota's first hydrogen vehicle when it rolls out of the factory next year.

Those who are interested can visit for a chance to win. A cool $100 will buy you one ticket, while $500 gets you six. All the proceeds benefit the Environmental Media Association, which supports environmental advocacy in the media. The winner of the contest will be announced October 18 at the 24th annual EMA Awards, presented by Toyota and Lexus.

Toyota's Fuel Cell Vehicle uses hydrogen fuel and oxygen in the air to produce electricity, which allows the car to travel 300 miles on a single fill-up. Refueling takes the same amount of time as a gas-powered vehicle. But finding a hydrogen station may be tough, considering there are only 10 public places to refuel with hydrogen in California, according to the U.S. Department of Energy. By 2015, Toyota estimates there will be around 20 operational hydrogen stations, and by 2016, this number should increase to 45. 2016 Toyota Fuel Cell Vehicle Sedan Left Side© Provided by MotorTrend 2016 Toyota Fuel Cell Vehicle Sedan Left Side

But Toyota isn't the first player in the hydrogen game. The Hyundai Tucson fuel cell-powered crossover came to California in May, offering free hydrogen fuel to all lessees. Toyota has not yet released U.S. pricing information on its fuel cell sedan, but we do know it will arrive in late 2015.
