You could say that early customs, more than early hot rods, had the biggest influence on the success of car shows like the Detroit Autorama. The earliest hot rods were built for speed not beauty. Street rods were built with some emphasis on appearance, but customs pushed it way beyond, with mixed body parts, fabricated interiors, and elaborate paint jobs. As the Detroit Autorama proves, creative styling and imaginative craftsmanship is a priority in every corner of the car hobby. But customs lit the fuse.

The Autorama pays tribute to traditional style customs every year with the Cavalcade of Customs. If it's wide whitewalls, frenched headlights, fancy stitching, reshaped sheetmetal, skillful 'striping, and every other aspect of traditional customs, then head to where the lead sleds are dressed to impress.
