Bill Harrah bought his first Ferrari in 1959, a reward car for the financial success of his Vegas casino. By the time of his passing in 1978, Harrah’s Modern Classic Motors of Reno was Ferrari’s west coast distributor.

Next month in Monterey RM Sotheby’s will offer Harrah’s personal 365 GTB/4 Daytona Berlinetta. Harrah had Francisco Mir’s Service Center in Santa Monica mount competition-style nine-inch rear wheels and fender flares and, as legend has it, upgrade the engine. Finished in Rame Metallizzato, the car has U.S.-spec pop-up headlights, Borrani wire wheels, and Borletti air conditioning.

The current owner acquired the car in 2012, and recently commissioned beautiful paint and bodywork with Glenn Roberts, and a suspension and front end rebuild by Ferrari of Scottsdale. Freshly rebuilt, the matching-numbers engine produced 386 horsepower on the dyno. Offered with complete concours-quality sets of books and tools, the “Harrah Hot Rod.”
