Finished in Tor Red paint with a Black interior, the 1970 Plymouth Hemi Cuda features an Argent-painted shaker hood with tie-downs and color-matched steel wheels with dog-dish hub caps wrapped in Goodyear Polyglas GT tires. Power comes from a 425-hp 426-cubic-inch Hemi V-8 mated to a 727 Torqueflite automatic transmission. The engine is topped with a pair of four-barrel carburetors that are fed ambient air through the shaker hood scoop.

Other highlights include a numbers-matching drivetrain, vinyl bucket seats with woodgrain console, chrome drip rail and window trim, dual exhaust with chrome tips, and space-saver spare tire.

The special-order car was one of the last 10 models built for the 1970 model year. Originally purchased new by Bill Reardon of Clarksburg, W. Va., from Shreves Plymouth- Dodge in June 1970, the new owner modified it for the drag strip. The intake and carburetors, complete exhaust, rear end, rear wheels and tires, and front shocks were all replaced with high-performance pieces. The original parts were stored. In its first season at the strip, the car would run high 10-second quarter-mile times.

Reardon passed away after his first season with the car. After his wife died in 1977, his son sold it to Marvin Dillion. With the original parts in hand, Dillion returned it to its original condition with 42 miles on the odometer. Dillion drove the car just one mile in 16 years. The Cuda saw three more owners before John Arruza of Thomasville, N.C. bought it with 61 miles on the clock. Arruza, a Hemi specialist, brought the mileage up to 73 miles in the course of tuning the engine to run like new. Since then, the car has reached just 81 miles.
