Those denying the new 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 supercar status ought to think twice about their position. GM just announced horsepower and torque ratings for the new LT4-powered Corvette Z06, and damn are they impressive. The 2015 Corvette Z06's 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 makes an astonishing 650 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque, making it one of the most powerful cars on the market today, and the most powerful Chevrolet ever built.

Even more impressive than the 2015 Chevy Corvette Z06's power figures is its dyno chart. The Corvette Z06's LT4 engine makes 457 lb-ft of torque just off idle, and is making 625 lb-ft of torque by 2800 rpm. Peak torque comes on at just 3600 rpm, at which point the V-8 is producing over 400 hp. The Corvette Z06's LT4 V-8 simply shames the previous-generation Corvette Z06's LS7 V-8, and the last Corvette ZR1's LS9 V-8. The last Corvette Z06 was powered by a naturally aspirated 7.0-liter V-8 making 505 hp and 442 lb-ft of torque, while the old Corvette ZR1 had a 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 producing 631 hp and 604 lb-ft of torque.

Take its chief rival, the Porsche 911 Turbo S, for instance; it's powered by a 3.8-liter twin-turbo F-6 making "just" 560 hp and 516 lb-ft. What about the 'Vette's crosstown rival? The 2015 Dodge Viper's massive 8.4-liter V-10 makes 641 hp and 600 lb-ft. The new Z06 is also more powerful than cars like the Lamborghini Huracan (601 hp), Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black (622 hp), and McLaren 650S (641 hp). Just about the only cars more powerful than the new Corvette Z06 are exotics like the Lamborghini Aventador and Ferrari FF, and the 2014 Ford Shelby GT500, which as you all well know, makes 662 hp and 631 lb-ft of torque from a supercharged 5.8-liter V-8.

The craziest part about all this though is that there still could be an even more powerful version of the Corvette coming if the ZR1 gets replaced.

The new 650-hp LT4 V-8 is to be built at GM's Bowling Green Assembly Plant in Kentucky, and Tonawanda Engine Plant in Western New York. It'll be mated up to a seven-speed manual or eight-speed automatic when it goes on sale in the 2015 Corvette Z06 early next year.
