During the 2015 New York International Auto Show, Honda debuted the all-new Civic Coupe Concept with a striking paint job and a fresh and sporty design. We loved the look and hoped the production version wouldn't be too far off, and a prototype we caught recently seems to suggest that's the case. Now, our own managing editor Rusty Kurtz has captured the sedan version, we were right testing in Motor Trend's backyard.

As Honda is headquartered in Torrance, Calif., it makes sense to see it testing its prototypes on the freeway near its offices. We caught the 10th-gen Civic in full camouflage on the northbound 405 near our offices, and from the few shots we were able to grab, we can make out a few key features.

Instead of full-width taillights, the sedan looks like it well get lamps positioned on the corners of the fenders that spill over the top of the trunk lid. For the 2016 Civic, Honda will underpin the model with a new platform, and new powertrains will also be added, including a turbocharged 1.5-liter I-4.

While we can't see much else, especially without shots of the front end, a Civic forum posted patent drawings of the 2016 Honda Civic, and comparing the few spy shots we have with these renderings, we feel pretty confident saying that these photos show the 2016 Civic sedan. The taillights match up, as do the rear shoulders and trunk lid shape.
