The number of classic Corvettes present at Hot August Nights in Reno, Nevada for 2018 was consistent with what could be found back in the day on the streets of Reno when C1, and C2 Corvettes were sold new to Nevada residents.

Research

Vette magazine spoke with several Corvette owners, and learned most of the cars had been in the owner's hands for decades. Take the Silver Blue 1958 for example the guy bought it in 1982 and has kept it as a decent appearing driver ever since. The Silver Blue paint was relatively fresh, and the rebuilt 270 horsepower dual-quad 283 was dropped in the week before HAN (Hot August Nights) for 2018.

He said he was running into a little bit of an overheating problem when he got stuck in traffic. Our suggestion was to pop the hood releasing it to grab the safety catch and let more cool air into the engine compartment.

We didn't find, but one example of an early Corvette on the streets of nearby Sparks, the morning we were there, but what a great example it was. The 1963 Sting Ray coupe featured bright red paint, and a lowered stance a clear indication there was probably more than a stock 327 under its hood.

Vette along with sister brands STREET RODDER, Classic Trucks and Super Chevy have been covering Hot August Nights for several years now, and its always a great wonderful time, plus it should be mentioned beyond good clean fun the event does do a little good in the world typically the Hot August Nights Foundation donates more than $140,000 to Northern Nevada Charities.
