Racers finally took to the salt flats for the 2019 Bonneville Speed Week Tuesday morning after three days of delays due to last week's rain that flooded the course, making conditions too wet to race. Even after three days of drying in hot sun and low humidity, racers still had a tough time getting down the track, as it was still soft in spots. Several cars spun, causing the race to be called for the day around 2:00 pm. In addition, only two courses were utilized today- the one-mile rookie course, and an abbreviated five-mile long course. Conditions of the salt flats were unsuitable for racing past six miles.

Still, racers were eager to finally strap in and go, and the queue leading up to the starting line was a good half-mile long. 277 cars and motorcycles made it down the track today, and George Poteet posted the day's fastest time in Speed Demon with a 332.815.

Racing will resume on Wednesday with a new course layout, and we will be there covering the action. Check out our previous galleries from Tech Inspection the Wendover Car Show, and cool rods on the salt flats, and look for race results on the Southern California Timing Association's website.
