I've always related to the lyrics, "A life on the road is the life of an outlaw man," from the Eagles' Desperado album, but I adhere more to Bob Dylan's "to live outside of the law, you have to be honest." It's hard to say what the coming winter months will be like politically, health wise, or weather wise, but one thing is for sure: The HOT ROD Auction Action! two-man crew will have one more epic road trip under its belt before winter comes.

The last Gilbert's Garage road trip was in late March, when we hauled our 1966 Chevelle back in fresh paint from Harold's Hot Rod Shop in Enid, Oklahoma, and we'll be stopping in Enid once again after covering the VanDerBrink's Regehr auction in Hutchinson, Kansas, on October 24, 2020. I've included advance photos Yvette VanDerBrink sent us of the rows of 1932 Fords and desirable '50s and '60s Chevys lined up in Hutchinson, and it is going to be an auction to remember, that's for sure.

Preparing for our HOT ROD Auction Action! road trip, it was a short week and I didn't get any time in working on my '32 Ford or the Chevelle, but I was able to knock out a few HGTV-type repurposing projects utilizing solid maple drawers from a 75-year-old hutch to add more shelving around my workbench.

It's always a team effort amongst my friends to work together on our various projects, and for the very cool HOT ROD Action Auction! signage on our Godzilla-powered motorhome, special thanks go out to Tim McColgan at Arts & Letters Signs in Upland, California. You can reach Tim at www.artsnletters.com

Here's HOT ROD Auction Action!'s 2021 32-foot Jayco powered by a Ford Godzilla engine. Brian bought the Jayco from Camping World, and that's cool because Camping World stepped up to sponsor the NHRA.

A rearview look at a row of 1957 Chevys. Being in person at the VanDerBrink Regehr Auction will feed the content of my dreams for the rest of my life and maybe empty my wallet while I'm there.

Here's our buddy Tim McColgan at Arts & Letters Signs in Upland, California, pasting the reflective HOT ROD Auction Action! stickers he made for us. Now if we just had glow-in-the-dark T-shirts to go with.

Look for the familiar glow-in-the-dark HOT ROD Auction Action! logo on a motorhome near you. Or maybe not—it depends on how close you live to somewhere in between the California desert and Hutchinson, Kansas.

Just like one of those TV shows on HGTV, I used Harbor Freight white wood glue and Harbor Freight clamps to repurpose this solid maple and rainforest mahogany drawer into a nifty wall unit.

On Friday, the day before the VanDerBrink Regehr Auction opens to the public, I'll shoot as many as these cars and trucks as I can for upcoming content here on HotRod.com. It's a good thing I'm bringing a lot of film.
