Kia's most popular model has received mild updates over the last few years to keep things fresh in a competitive segment. But when the 2016 model year rolls around, expect these changes to get bigger. Our photographers spotted the all-new 2016 Kia Optima testing in the desert, and from what they captured, the model will receive a bolder front fascia and a completely new interior.

In line with the styling of other midsize sedans, the Optima retains its overall sharp appearance but adds some notable flair in front. The careful observer can spy more aggressive air intakes, new headlights, and chiseled lines near the lower grille in this new model. Looking at it from the side, it is apparent the Optima has an extended glass section around its new C-pillar, allowing for a more streamlined design that flows into the roofline. Inside the vehicle, we see small changes that could make a big difference. Air vents that once book-ended the infotainment screen are now placed below in a horizontal line. A redesigned shift lever, revised cup holder placement, and an entirely new dashboard elicit a cleaner look overall.

The current third-generation sedan, introduced for 2011, has been majorly overhauled over time since Kia stole car designer Peter Schreyer away from Audi to work magic on the exterior. For 2016, the Optima will continue this general design theme but will sit on a revised platform that will make this car truly different from its predecessors.
