The BMW 1 Series sedan stepped out for another round of testing, and once again, spy photographers were there to catch it in action. While we've already seen the upcoming sedan's camouflaged exterior, photographers were able to get close enough to the prototype to snap a couple photos of its interior.

Looking past all the testing gear in the front seat, we can see the sedan sports a different setup on the center stack than we're used to seeing. On other Bimmers, the center stack is a solid unit that spans from the top of the dash to the gear selector. On this 1 Series sedan tester, however, there appears to be a gap that leaves the HVAC controls floating. If the steering wheel looks different, that's because it is, but that doesn't mean we haven't seen it before. The same steering wheel is featured in the 2 Series Active Tourer, and looking closer, we can also see that the free-standing infotainment display also has a slightly trapezoidal shape like the one in the Active Tourer, though the screen itself doesn't appear as wide. The orange lights in the instrument cluster appear to also have been replaced by white lights.

As for the prototype's exterior, it doesn't look any different than the last time we saw it. Still covered in the same amount of camouflage, the 1 Series appears to have a much narrower front end and shorter body compared to the 3 Series. That's because the Audi A3- and Mercedes-Benz CLA-fighter is riding on Mini's new front-wheel-drive UKL platform, which will reportedly underpin all 1 Series models in the future. Other future 1 Series models we can expect later on down the line include a five- and three-door hatchback.

The BMW 1 Series sedan is scheduled for launch in 2016, when it will go head-to-head with its German rivals.
