The 770-HP Shelby F-150 Super Snake Is as Nuts as it Sounds

Ford just announced a new version of its bestselling F-150. The Blue Oval will sell you an F-150 with a hybrid powertrain, an on-board generator, or a sleeper cab. The company offers six powertrains, class-leading towing, and more payload than anyone else. But what they don't offer is a 770-horsepower variant, which is why the Shelby American F-150 Super Snake exists.

Strictly speaking, of course, a truck like this doesn't actually need to exist. But the absurd horsepower wars seem far from a ceasefire. In fact, soon you won't even need to go to a third-party company for this sort of firepower. Ram will soon announce a Hellcat-powered Rebel TRX, while the F-150 Raptor is reportedly getting the 5.2-liter, 760-hp supercharged V-8 from a Shelby GT500 in the next year or so.

That Raptor and the TRX, though, are for off-road racers. If you want tire-shredding power for the street, that's where Shelby American steps in. And while we've known about the truck's 770-hp version of the F-150's 5.0, lowered suspension, massive air intakes, and brake upgrades for some time, a new video from Throttle House shows what that looks like in motion.

As expected, the result is a loud, sideways, smokey scene of a muscle truck screeching around a closed course. Clearly Shelby American has taught the F-150 how to play along for drifting, turning most of its 770-hp into noise and shredded rubber. It's well worth a watch, as Throttle House does a good job of conveying the absurdity of the situation. Lucky for us, the insane prospect of the 700-hp pickup truck clearly won't die after Shelby American finishes its 250 examples of the F-150 Super Snake.
