The Chevy Colorado ZR2 is a fantastic off-roader with some truly magical suspension, but its lackluster powertrain choices leave something to be desired, as we discovered in our 2018 rally stage review of the truck. But there's at least one Colorado out there that's had that problem taken care of.

Aftermarket parts manufacturer Lingenfelter recently published a YouTube video outlining a ZR2 build completed for a customer. From the outside, it looks like any other Colorado, save for a set of bigger off-road tires. But under the hood lies a supercharged 6.2-liter LT4 V-8 engine—the same sort of powerplant you'd find in a Corvette Z06 or Cadillac CTS-V. It makes 650 horsepower from the factory, but Lingenfelter's added its pulley kit and tune, pushing the motor to a claimed 720 horsepower at the crank. It sends power to the wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission, which has its own Lingenfelter tune.

In the above dyno video, the truck is able to lay down 534 horsepower and 526 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels—pretty impressive considering the drivetrain loss coming from that wheel-tire setup. That's also an insane amount of power for a truck as reasonably sized as the Colorado. A Ford F-150 Raptor wouldn't stand a chance in a straight line.

If only Chevy would offer a truck like this from the factory. Then we'd be truly happy.
