While the Porsche Taycan Turbo may be lacking in the range department, there's no doubting its performance capabilities. In this latest test out of Germany, it's able to lap a race track quicker than cars like the Shelby GT500 and M5 Competition.

German publication Sport Auto took a Taycan Turbo—not the top-of-the-range Turbo S, mind you—to the Hockenheim Formula 1 circuit recently to see just how well it could stack up against its ICE-powered competitors. Despite the massive weight penalty from its floor-mounted battery pack, it's able to see a lap time of 1:54.1 around the famous track. Comparing that with other lap times set by the publication, the Taycan Turbo is half a second quicker than the mighty supercharged Shelby, and a tenth in front of the brutally quick M5.

It's also worth noting just how fun the lap looked from behind the wheel. Driver Christian Gebhardt is able to slide out of corners and really commit through faster bends. It's worth a watch if you still doubt whether the Taycan is a "real" Porsche.
