The Aston Martin DBX concept revealed at the 2015 Geneva auto show hints at a potential future model from the British automaker. Aston Martin says the new concept “challenges the nature of luxury GT travel in the 21st Century” and is intended to widen the brand’s appeal.

Despite its off-road, vaguely Local Motors Rally Fighter -esque stance, the DBX concept coupe’s styling is an evolution of the Aston Martin DB10 that has a starring role in the upcoming James Bond "Spectre" flick. While the DB10 isn’t expected for production, the movie car is thought to preview the automaker’s future design direction. The DBX concept only confirms that notion.

“The DBX Concept is more than a thought starter for us and for our customers, though,” said Dr. Andy Palmer, Aston Martin CEO, in a release. “We will, in due course, be entering a car into the new DBX space and I am very much looking forward to seeing how this concept is received not only here today, but also by our legion of existing loyal customers and by those potential customers around the world who have, to this point, yet to consider one of our cars.”

The Aston Martin DBX concept features an all-electric drivetrain consisting of inboard electric motors in all four wheels. Juice is supplied by lithium-sulfur cells. Carbon ceramic brakes with a kinetic energy recovery system ( KERS ) recoup some of the energy lost through braking. Other technologies include drive-by-wire electric steering, toughened glass with an auto-dimming smart glass inter-layer, and driver and passenger head-up displays (HUD). Additionally, the concept also features active LED exterior lighting, while rearview cameras replace the side mirrors.

The exterior of the DBX concept is comprised of machined billet aluminum. Aston Martin says the alloy panels' visible milling lines are part of the car’s jewelry. The Black Pearl Chromium finish features a micro-fine layer of chrome to enhance the paint’s reflectivity.

Inside, there is seating for four adults and room for their luggage in the front and rear trunks. Velvet-like Nubuck leather features a sandwiched accent layer like that on high-end furniture. The leather is contrasted by the concept’s high-tech features and bright finish interior bits with gold pin striping.

The Aston Martin DBX concept could fill a unique spot with its classic Aston Martin luxury and modern styling, electric drivetrain, and Rally Fighter-like stance. Could it be the ultimate post-apocalyptic Mad Max electric vehicle?
