Scion iA is Brand's New York-Bound Sedan

Scion could use some fresh sheetmetal in its lineup, and at the New York auto show the brand will debut two new vehicles. Along with the iM five-door hatch, Scion will bring out the newly-named iA sedan.

Research

The iA will draw in mainstream buyers to the niche-constrained brand if it hits the mark with consumers. We don't know much about this new model yet, except that it promises a bold grille design we haven't seen on Scion cars before. The automaker says the new sedan "is designed to appeal to young people who need a little more practicality, but still want engaging styling and outstanding driving dynamics."

Here's a little more on what to expect for the iA. Previously, we reported on rumors that Scion's first sedan will be built at Mazda's Salamanca, Mexico plant alongside the new Mazda2 and new Toyota Yaris. Since the new car will be built by Mazda, it may use one of the automaker's Skyactiv engines, perhaps the 1.5-liter four-cylinder to be used in the Mazda2.

We anticipate the Scion iA will bear a 2016 model year badge when it eventually comes to market. In the meantime, the Scion iA will be unveiled on March 31 before the New York auto show officially opens to the public.
