  • Dodge is celebrating great Challenger sales with a 50th-anniversary limited edition.
  • It's heavy on the "50" badges and also has the iconic Shaker hood.
  • The packages are ready for order in December and cost $4995 t0 $5995 to add to any of four Challenger models.

In a market where the majority of sales are of pickups, SUVs, and crossovers, the Dodge Challenger has made a resurgence, and for a car, that's pretty awesome. Dodge is coming off its best year ever for Challenger sales, with 66,716 sold in 2018, and record-setting third-quarter sales in 2019. So there's more than one reason for the brand to celebrate with a 50th Anniversary Edition of the Challenger in 2020.

Dodge will offer the 50th Anniversary Edition package on GT RWD, R/T Shaker, R/T Scat Pack, and R/T Scat Pack Widebody Challenger models. The Shaker hood will thus be available on the R/T Scat Pack Widebody model, and it will also be the first Shaker scoop to come in body color, a nice juxtaposition with the satin black hood that also comes with the new edition; the Shaker hood can only be had on V-8 models.

A special Shaker hood isn't the only thing that’s new for this commemorative edition. All 50th-anniversary cars will get trim specific Gold Rush alloy wheels that change in design depending on which level of Challenger you opt for. Additionally, cars that are equipped with Brembo brakes will receive a new gunmetal finish on the calipers rather than the typical bright red. For this edition, it's all about the small details, Dodge will include "50" logos on the seats, dashboard, floor mats, rear spoiler, and even illuminated on the inside of the headlight housing. If that's not enough to remind you that you’re sitting on 50 years of thoroughbred muscle car, fear not, the interior will also feature a unique yellow-themed gauge cluster and sepia stitching on the dashboard, seats, and steering wheel, as well as real carbon-fiber accenting. Even Hellcat models will receive a "50" logo.

As a nod to 1970—the original year of production for the first Challenger—Dodge will produce 70 cars in each trim and color combination, and each one will have a dashboard placard with the car's number out of 70. A new addition to Dodge's extensive portfolio of in-your-face colors (known as high-impact paint internally) is being introduced. In line with Dodge's celebration of the golden era with this edition, it's aptly named Gold Rush.

The package will start at $4995 for the GT RWD, $5495 for the R/T Shaker, and $5995 for the 392-powered Scat Pack variants. Dodge dealers will start taking orders in December, and the cars arrive at dealers in "early spring" 2020. It seems that FCA's penchant for stoking the eternal flame of nostalgia has yet to die off, and we're thankful; a world without rumbling V-8s isn't something we're quite ready to accept.
