2022 Ford Bronco Raptor Gets 418 HP and 440 LB-FT of Torque

Final engine specs for the Bronco Raptor's twin-turbo V-6 have been confirmed by CEO Jim Farley.

When Ford revealed the highly anticipated Bronco Raptor back in January, it promised a target of 400 hp from the 3.0-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V-6 under the hood. The company has been mum on final engine specs, fine-tuning the calibration before production begins. Now, thanks to CEO Jim Farley, we finally know exactly how much power and torque the Bronco Raptor makes: 418 hp and 440 lb-ft of torque.

Farley confirmed the figures on Twitter on Tuesday afternoon. The engine, derived from the 3.0-liter units found in the Explorer ST and the Lincoln Aviator, gets its own tune and its own dual-exit exhaust. There's also electronically controlled valves in the piping for varying exhaust volume. In fact, you can listen to the engine's start-up and idle right here.

Though the Bronco Raptor is designed for desert running rather than straight-line speed, with those kinds of power numbers it should still be pretty quick. Expect a 0-60 time in the four- to five-second range. Remember, that power has to go through a 10-speed transmission, a two-speed transfer case, and four 37-inch all-terrain tires. That's a lot of parasitic loss.

In related news, Ford released official EPA-rated fuel economy numbers for the Bronco Raptor earlier this week, with the off-road SUV coming in at 15 mpg city and 16 mpg highway, for a combined rating of 15 mpg. These numbers make it the least efficient trim in the Bronco range. But if you're out shopping for your next hardcore desert-runner truck, we imagine that's not of much concern.
