2022 Ford Maverick

Only a few years after the Ranger's return to the U.S., Ford's truck lineup is about to expand again. Called the Maverick, the new compact truck should slot beneath the Ranger and full-size F-150 in Ford's truck lineup. From what we know so far, the 2022 Maverick will ride on the compact car platform that underpins the European-market Focus and be bolted together at Ford's assembly plant in Hermosillo, Mexico.

The Maverick's car-based construction is made obvious by its lack of separate cab and bed. That said, its large, doe-eyed headlights, boxy profile, and muscular fender flares make the pint-sized Ford look like a legitimate pickup. Expect to hear more about the new Ford Maverick later in 2021.

What Will Power the 2022 Ford Maverick?

We're expecting a similar powertrain lineup to the Bronco Sport with turbo-four and potentially turbo-three-cylinder engine options. The Bronco Sport's 1.5-liter turbo-three produces 181 hp and 190 lb-ft of torque. That small SUV's upgrade engine is a 250-hp 2.0-liter turbo-four good for 277 lb-ft of torque. Both engines are mated to eight-speed automatic transmissions.
