Auction house Russo and Steele has canceled its 2020 Amelia Island auction, amidst issues and concerns with the event site, the City of Fernandina Beach Municipal Airport.

Marshy conditions at the site, as well as snakes, were to blame.

Russo and Steele director of marketing Ty Woodhall spoke to Sports Car Market, explaining that the auction company is collaborating with the city of Fernandina Beach to make the site ready to host a 2021 Amelia Island auction next year. (Information on the 2021 event is currently visible on the Russo and Steele website.) In the interim, Russo is focusing on its 2020 Monterey auction.

Last year was Russo and Steele’s first sale surrounding the Amelia Island auctions. The 2019 event resulted in $3.7M in sales with roughly 30 percent of cars sold.

We’ve reached out to Woodhall as well as the City of Fernandina Beach Municipal Airport’s director for additional comment, but as of this publication time have not received a response. We will update this story with any developments.
