The Problem: According to the company, rough road conditions can cause the ignition switch to move into the “off” or “accessory” position during driving. Just like a massive amount of GM vehicles recalled for ignition switch failures, this problem can unexpectedly turn off the engine or disable the airbags, power steering, and power braking. Many of these vehicles have been recalled before for the same issue.

The Fix: This time around, FCA will replace the entire ignition switch. Vehicles from the 2008 and 2009 model years will undergo repairs starting in April. Owners with 2010 model year vehicles will have to wait until August to head to the dealership for the fix. In the meantime, FCA says drivers should remove all extra keys and items from the key fob until the problem can be fixed.

Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: 702,578 minivans and SUVs. Specifically, the recall involves 2008-2010 Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country vehicles, as well as Dodge Journey SUVs from the 2009 and 2010 model years.
