Refreshing or Revolting: 2014 Scion tC

While the rear-drive FR-S gets all the attention in Scion's lineup, the front-drive tC coupe was the youthful brand's top seller in 2012. To keep it from stagnating, the 2014 Scion tC has been given a mid-cycle refresh.

Exterior styling has been tweaked to tie the 2014 Scion tC closer to the more expensive FR-S. New headlights feature a pronounced scallop below the turn signals, and the area below the projector beams comes to a sharp point. The hexagonal fascia opening is similar to that of the FR-S, while the upper grille is now slimmer. Vertical LED accent lights above the available foglights are new.

While the taillight shape remains intact, clear lenses cover new LED lighting. The new rear fascia features recessed reflectors as well as a large diffuser panel with a triangular fog taillight similar to the one on the FR-S. Eighteen-inch alloy wheels featuring a painted gray finish and bright machined spokes are standard.

Inside, the new Scion tC 's interior mostly carries over with the exception of lighter fabric used on the seats and headliner. A new audio system with 6.1-inch touch screen with Bluetooth and HD radio is now standard, while a navigation system is optional.

Do you think the design updates to the 2014 Scion tC successfully refresh its styling? Share your thoughts below.

Last week, we featured the 2014 Nissan Versa Note four-door hatchback, which received mixed reviews. Thespeter called the front end "fun and adventurous," but felt the rear-view styling was too busy. Justbeinghonest found the Versa Note revolting, noting that description is "due to that interior."
