Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk took to Twitter to tease two new models, one of which may be called, "D." Musk's announcement said that it is, "About time to unveil the D and something else," promising more details would be revealed on Thursday, October 9.

Research

The teaser photo shows what looks like the nose of a Tesla Model S hiding behind a garage door emblazoned with the letter D, but it remains unclear what type of vehicle Elon Musk is ready to reveal. We already know that the crossover follow-up to the Tesla Model S is called the Model X, and that the planned cheaper, BMW 3-Series-size sedan will be the Model 3.

It's possible that Tesla will introduce an updated version of its Lotus-based Roadster, an all-electric sports car that was the company's first vehicle. Other rumors suggest Tesla will launch an all-wheel-drive version of the Model S, with the "D" signifying a dual-motor drivetrain borrowed from the upcoming Model X. Either way, the new car appears to have the same basic front fascia design as the existing Model S. Tesla will soon have even more production capacity to build a greater range of all-electric models, once its Gigafactory battery manufacturing facility comes online, so it's not surprising that the company will reveal a new vehicle.

Come back Thursday, October 9 for full details on the mysterious Tesla D.
