Volkswagen Recalls 37,979 Vehicles for Fuel System Issue

Volkswagen of America has announced a voluntary recall on certain 2014-2015 Beetle, Jetta, and Passat models, and 2015 Golf and GTI models for an issue with the fuel system. Approximately 38,000 vehicles are affected by this issue. Yesterday, the automaker recalled approximately 50,000 Jetta models with halogen headlights for a problem with the headlamp control unit software.

The Problem: One of the sealing caps on the fuel rail may fail, which could allow fuel to leak into the engine compartment on some 2014-2015 Volkswagen models. If this were to happen, an ignition source could cause the leaked fuel to ignite and cause a vehicle fire.

The Fix: Volkswagen will notify owners to bring their affected vehicles to the dealer where the fuel rails will be replaced with new parts. The automaker hasn’t said when the notifications will begin, but owners can contact the automaker at 1-800-822-8987 regarding recall number 24Bi.

Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: This voluntary recall includes 37,979 Volkswagen models including 2014-2015 Beetle models built from March 31, 2014 to November 27, 2014; 2014-2015 Jetta models built March 28, 2014 to November 24, 2014; 2014-2015 Passat models built April 7, 2014 to November 18, 2014; and 2015 Golf and GTI models built July 1, 2014 to November 20, 2014. Currently, there have been no accidents or injuries related to this issue.
