Volkswagen has priced the new 2012 Beetle coupe, leading us to wonder how the car fits into the affordable, front-wheel-drive coupe segment. Not every automaker offers a compact coupe, but there are still at least four options in the $24,000 range besides the Volkswagen Beetle getting so much attention lately. With a $24,000 budget, would you consider a 2012 Volkswagen Beetle or one of its competitors?

Here are your choices :

Wild Cards : When you absolutely can't spend more than $24,000, you're stuck with a base model Camaro and Mustang. Front-wheel-drive alternatives in that price range also include the sporty 201-horsepower 2012 Honda Civic Si and the much-improved second-generation Scion tC coupe.

The Volkswagen Beetle with a 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine starts at just below $20,000, but the 2.0-liter turbo model is priced above budget at $24,165 -- for a basic model. If you're looking for value, the Kia Forte Koup offers leather, a navigation system, uprated four-cylinder engine, and a sunroof for under $24,000.

A smaller fun-to-drive option comes from Mini. A moderately equipped Cooper or Cooper S coupe is a more interesting alternative to some of the above choices. If it were your $24,000 and you were considering a new two-door car, what would you choose? Tell us your reasoning in the comments section below.
