The Problem: GM is recalling certain Hummer H3 and H3T SUVs for an issue with the HVAC system that could potentially lead to a fire. During extended use of high and medium speeds, the connector module that controls the blower motor speed could overheat melting the surrounding plastic, increasing the risk of fire.

“GM is aware of three reported minor burns and 42 fires but no crashes or fatalities related to this condition,” GM said in a statement. A total of 31 incidents were reported to the NHTSA and 11 reported to GM. Two of those three vehicles were completely destroyed by the fire.

The Fix: Dealers will replace the affected section of the connector and harness.

Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: A total of 196,379 vehicles are being recalled, including 2006-2010 Hummer H3 and 2009-2010 Hummer H3T SUVs. Of those, 164,993 vehicles are located in the U.S., while the rest are located in Canada, Mexico, and other countries.

2014-2015 Chevrolet Spark

The Problem: GM is also recalling certain Chevrolet Spark hatchbacks for a software issue that could cause the safety warnings to malfunction. The issue can occur during use of the OnStar navigation system, causing the radio display and safety warning lights to go blank. No injuries or crashes related to the issue have been reported.

The Fix: GM will notify owners to bring their cars into a dealer, where the radio software will be reflashed.

Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: The recall affects a total of 50,731 2014-2015 Chevrolet Spark models located in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico
